What Was Cutting Edge When You Were Young?
How big was your first mobile phone?
How did you watch movies when you were a kid?
How did you communicate with friends?
We asked Jovians to reminisce about the technology they got excited about when they were young.
Step into our Delorean and travel back in time with these answers:
"8 track tapes and players"
"Walk man"
"Atari - Pong"
"Polaroid cameras"
"I remember when the Zenith 286 was cutting edge. That and a 300 Baud modem. Anyone from that period can remember hollering at others who picked up the phone when you were sending/receiving data."
"How about dial-up Internet that I had my freshman year in college and the floppy disk for file storage or the compact disk to install programs on it?!?"
"Were you ever even cool if you didn't have a beeper?! I mean, how much more cutting technology can you get than to get a notification to call a random number (since someone was likely calling/beeping from a pay phone), have to find a land-line or pay phone, and then call the number back hoping the person picking up the line is still in the area to answer your call. Cutting.Edge.Technology."
"Going from a typewriter to a keyboard"
"My first cell phone looked more like a SAT Phone."
"I remember when my dad put in a pay phone in our home! Family of 8…."
"The VCR. Probably the most exciting thing we got was the Betamax. You could record shows and watch movies whenever you wanted!"
"In the late 1960's we didn't have to dial a phone number using the area code (123-4567). It changed in the 1970's, more people more numbers!"
We are life-long learners working daily with tech, but we still get that excited feeling when we hear about breakthrough advancements, just like when we mastered Pong.
