What's the Big Idea about Baltimore?
Baltimore is known for many things.
It's true.
Several years ago, the Jovian Concepts summer teambuilding retreat was held in Cancun, Mexico, and we learned this first hand. During the security screening in the airport upon arrival, many Jovians were greeted with remarks such as, "Oh... you're from Baltimore..." and we knew what those comments meant.
But Baltimore is much more than what the media sometimes reports.
There is a deeper, richer history that tells the story of innovation, strong work-ethics, and resilience.
Jovian Concepts nods to this history by holding our annual holiday party at landmark locations around the Baltimore region. Originally, the holiday party was held in the home of our company president, Rich Scheper. As the company outgrew the Schepers' home, it was important to Rich and his wife Stacey to maintain the feeling of this annual party as a sort of homecoming. Because Rich Scheper grew up in Baltimore, the entire region now acts as an extension of 'home' as Jovians and their Plus Ones reunite each December with food, dancing, and good spirits.
In 2021 Jovian Concepts held the holiday party at the Baltimore Museum of Industry (BMI). The BMI showcases the history of "working Baltimore," with exhibits about normal, every day workers featured side-by-side with well-known industry giants such as Bethlehem Steel. The focus on innovation and strong work-ethics made the BMI the perfect backdrop for celebrating the Down to Earth, Up to the Challenge morale of Jovian Concepts. Originally planned for 2020, the long-awaited event could serve as a poster image for the resilience that has strengthened in Jovians and in so many others over the past two years of the global pandemic.
At Jovian Concepts we are grateful to be surrounded by those who share our respect for the traits highlighted by Baltimore locations such as the BMI. It is a pleasure to take some time to focus on the innovation, stewardship, and the pioneering spirit that are just the sort of Big Ideas for which Jovian Concepts is known.
