Golf Tournament Supports Military Students

A cybersecurity student cannot afford high-speed internet at home, struggles to complete assignments, and considers dropping out of school.

A full-time student receives the supplies list for one of her classes but cannot afford the needed materials. She wonders whether she should drop some classes so she can work full-time.

Another student lets the school know he is struggling to balance rent, groceries, and gas bills and may need to postpone his education.

These stories are local to the Central Maryland region. They are stories of students at Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC).

The students in these stories are veterans and military-connected students.

CCBC serves over a thousand veterans and military-connected students in Baltimore and its surrounding regions each year and has a resource group to help students navigate Veterans Affairs (VA) education benefits. Yet some students fall through the cracks when gaps occur in payments or when other obstacles pop up that aren’t addressed by their VA benefits.

The CCBC Foundation exists to help such students finish their education. The CCBC Foundation is an affiliated 501(c) (3) non-profit corporation associated with the college that provides an external fund for students encountering obstacles to their education. These obstacles can include but are not limited to transportation, childcare, food security, and the cost of school supplies. Emergency funds are distributed on a first-come-first-served basis as requests come in from the 50,000 students CCBC serves.

Recently, someone asked, “Wouldn’t it be nice if the Foundation had a fund set aside specifically for students who are veterans, active military, or their families?”

  • Considering that almost all CCBC students stay in the community after graduating, supporting the students has long-reaching benefits for the entire region. Many military-associated students who go into STEM fields will seek work in the community where Jovian Concepts operates.

  • The Jovian Concepts Philanthropic Mission strives to enrich the environment in which our employees work and live, primarily by supporting educational programs and programs aimed at improving the lives of U.S. Armed Forces.

Think you know where we’re going with this?

Jovian Concepts is pleased to announce that proceeds from the 2024 Jovian Concepts Golf Tournament will go to the CCBC Foundation to establish an impact fund to support veterans and military connected students.

This new relationship with the CCBC Office of Veterans and Military Services closely aligns with the Jovian Concepts Philanthropic Mission and it furthers our support of accessible education through CCBC.
