Richard Scheper, Ph.D, founded Jovian Concepts, Inc., to be a company where employees could feel valued and Big Ideas could flourish. “The role of the company is to support the employee,” he says. Recognizing the need for balance and encouraging communication are two key ways Dr. Scheper encourages company leaders to create a culture where Big Ideas are welcomed.

As an astrophysicist, beekeeper, gamer, and father, Dr. Scheper models work-life balance in his role as President and CEO for Jovian Concepts.

Advice for Students: "Focus on the fundamentals-- math, physics, computer science. It will leave you more flexible to steer into different technical fields."

Thoughts on Balance: "I always try to have at least one success a day. Many times it is not work related. Success could be that I achieved my daily exercise goal, I learned something new, I finished a crossword puzzle, I taught my kid a new skill, I got to play a game with my family. Focusing on successes in the context of a balanced life helps me stay positive even when things in one area are challenging."
