A Day in the Life of a Director of Programs

This is part of a series of posts highlighting the diversity of our Jovian Concepts team. Check back throughout the year to glimpse snapshots of other members or search our site for more.

Many members of Jovian Concepts have multiple roles to play in the company, customer space, home, and community. This month we spend a day with our Director of Programs who balances all four with focus and a positive sense of humor.

Take a look at his description of a recent day to see an example of what we at Jovian Concepts call being Down to Earth, Up to the Challenge:

4:45 a.m. Wake up and take the dogs for their morning walk.

5:15 a.m. Feed the cat before she eats my leg off; feed the dogs.

A Day in the Life of our Director of Programs

5:30 a.m. Watch the news while my wife gets ready for work. Catch up on emails and determine the plan for the day.

6:30 a.m. Sync with my wife about what’s on our calendar today and which of us we think will be home first to take care of our four-legged kids.

6:45 a.m. Depart for work and sit in traffic. Wait, I mean go 90mph and then 0mph.

7:15 a.m. Arrive at work and catch up on email and morning activities.

8:00 a.m. Sync with the engineering team to cover ongoing designs and address any issues.

8:30 a.m. Attend meetings to capture requirements or spend time building the systems we’ve already designed.

11:30 a.m. I usually eat at my desk from the local deli, or I bring my lunch. I work in an open environment, so I use this time to catch up with coworkers.

1:00 p.m. Run a Weekly Activity Report meeting with our company president, vice president, and CFO. This is my opportunity to present the leadership team with the highlights of our employees for the past week.

2:00 p.m. Participate in interviews to help grow the Jovian family. This could also be general office time to catch up on contract documents that ensure our employees are covered so they can continue their critical work.

4:30 p.m. Depart the office and head for home.

5:00 p.m. Arrive home and repeat the morning routine with the pets.

5:30 p.m. Catch up with my wife. You’d think we’d get the opportunity to talk all the time, but it doesn’t usually happen that way.

6:15 p.m. Work out time -- whether it’s lifting weights in the gym or riding my Peleton in the basement, this is usually what you’ll find me doing.

7:30 p.m. Help my wife with dinner, by this I mean 'drink an adult beverage while trying not to annoy her.'

9:00 p.m. Mindless TV for an hour or so. This is usually when my wife and I actually sit down and relax. Right now, that also means checking in with the rest of the Home Owners Association board in my community, checking Jovian emails, looking at social media, all while trying to act like I’m ignoring Real Housewives of Somewhere on the TV.

11:00 p.m. Catch up on the news and start winding down. Unless it’s proposal season, then this is when I would head downstairs to my desk and start writing until 2 or 3 a.m.
