What's the Big Idea about Happy Hour?

A healthy work-life balance is a priority at Jovian Concepts. Happy hours provide an opportunity for our community to network and unwind, while fostering relationships within our company. Great relationships with local watering holes add to the appeal while setting a relaxed tone.

When Jovian Concepts was founded, the company had no corporate office, no place to hold meetings of any size, nowhere to conduct interviews. Founder and president Rich Scheper called upon his long-time friend Tim Kendzierski, who welcomed Jovian Concepts into Ellicott Mills Brewing Company (EMBC). From hosting happy hours to storing the coveted Jovian Concepts beer steins, EMBC was a first home to the Jovian Concepts family, even once doors to the Jovian Concepts headquarters first opened in Columbia, Maryland. Bartenders at EMBC routinely used "What's the Big Idea?" coasters that boasted the Jovian Concepts logo, and until EMBC was flooded in 2016, the basement operated under a sign that read, "The Jovian Concepts Big Idea Room". Consecutive, devastating, floods triggered a series of events that eventually transformed EMBC under new ownership. By then, Jovian Concepts headquarters expanded into a new location in Hanover, MD, with enough space for meetings and events. Our Maryland Jovians no longer needed to meet offsite.

The relationship between Jovian Concepts and Ellicott Mills Brewing Company is one that influenced each Jovian Concepts location to seek unassuming places to hold comfortable, enjoyable gatherings. Local breweries, bowling alleys, piers, and distilleries are the sort of places you'll find our Okinawa, Key West, or Augusta, GA, Jovians after All Hands meetings or when celebrating with new Jovians.

The informal atmosphere of a Jovian Concepts Happy Hour speaks to the humble nature of our company culture. As our steins read, "Big heads are atop our beers, not between our ears."
